Learn to Teach, Learn to Lead

What if every child in New Zealand had the opportunity to realise their full potential, regardless of where they live or the income of their parents?

Educational inequality results in thousands of New Zealand children being confined to a life of unrealised potential.

Our programme offers graduates an exciting and challenging job, access to our leadership development academy and the opportunity to catapult your career whether you choose to stay in Education, move into the Business sector or establish your own social enterprise or community endeavour. You will emerge from our programme with the skills, experience and training to make a meaningful difference to future generations of New Zealanders.

"We are proud to be a Founding Partner of Teach First NZ which gives talented individuals the opportunity to make a real difference whilst developing their own leadership skills"
Amy de Court, Recruitment, Chapman Tripp

YOU ARE GRADUATING?

Do you want to...

Use your degree to make a difference?
Accelerate your career?
Inspire future generations?
Lead with purpose?

then Teach First.

WHAT IS TEACH FIRST?

Not everyone in NZ gets the same chance. In fact, New Zealand has one of the worst rates of young people falling through the cracks of your education system in the world.

The simple truth is, if you are from a low-income community, you are nearly twice as likely to leave school without NCEA level 2 than a person from a high-income community. This is not an education system where young people from low decile schools are failing, but a system that is failing our young people.

The Teach First programme selects a group of bright leaders each year to help address this problem.

LEAD WITH PURPOSE

Our program is three-fold - leadership development, real experience and a paid job with a competitive salary.

First up - we recruit talented graduates to bring their knowledge, energy and leadership into high-need classrooms inspiring young people to fulfil and expand their potential. You need to commit to two years. From here, you are set up to continue leading change in education, business, or community roles (our graduates are highly sought after by top employers).

You will experience real satisfaction from the difference you can make and the skills you will learn, changing the life of students and changing yours.

ARE YOU ELIGIBLE?

Applications are being accepted in the following subject majors:

  • English (literature)
  • Maths/Statistics/Econometrics
  • Physics (and Engineering)
  • Chemistry (and Engineering)
  • Biology/Genetics/Earth Sciences/Zoology* (see entry criteria)
