Create Great Together

We’ve come a long way since we opened our doors in 1861, and so has the world of banking. We’re transforming our business for the future, and we’re looking for a diverse range of minds to help us do it.

As a graduate at BNZ, your objective will be the same as our CEO. To enable a high achieving New Zealand, by helping our customers be good with money, so they can do great things with it. You’ll be on a fast track program, involved with hands on, meaningful work from the word go. Whether you’re a graduate for 6 or 18 months, you’ll be learning extensive commercial skills and business acumen, allowing you to step in to a full time position when the opportunity arises.

Life at BNZ

Of course Life at BNZ isn’t all about the work we do, it’s about the people we connect with, how we stay energised inside and outside of work, and the growth that we experience.

Inspiring

Our customers and the communities we work in, inspire and energise us to achieve great things together. Take a look at the Good Report (or closed for good) video to see just some of the initiatives we’re proud to have been involved in recently.

Connections

With over 70 different communities across BNZ, feel empowered to connect with people across the business through a diverse range of interests and networks. Our Generation Blue community is an active social entity, and a great way to connect with other future BNZ leaders over nibbles and drinks.

Energising

Think working for a bank means sitting behind a desk? Think again! We get out and about in the community to really get to know our customers. Our flexible working arrangements and agile work spaces ensure we remain energised so we can be our best, at home and at work.

Growth

Start as a graduate and become the Director of BNZ Partners, well that’s what Shelley Ruha did anyway. Take advantage of working closely with senior leaders across the business and a fast track development programme to develop skills and knowledge for a successful career with BNZ.

Whether you’re studying engineering, the arts, law, finance or something else - we’re open to graduates from a wide range of disciplines.  The main thing we look for is your drive to succeed, not just for yourself but for our customers, communities and the team around you.

We like to keep things flexible to meet the needs of the business, so our opportunities can change year by year. For our 2018 intake we will be looking for graduates in the following areas:

Phew that’s a long list, but don’t worry if you’re not sure what it all means yet as it really highlights how much you’ll get to learn – you’ll really get to see he different elements of banking come together here. With so much to get through, our Institutional Banking program is a little more structured, giving you time to gain exposure to all the elements of banking a large institutional customer.

Here’s some of the teams you’ll spend time with:

Where will I work?

Most of our graduates are based in either Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch with the exception of our Agri grads who are scattered across the regions North and South.

It’s difficult to say exactly where you may be placed so it’s best to keep an open mind and let us know if you have a specific preference, but you may need to be willing to relocate.
